KECNS is open for Fall 2020! We follow the CT state mandate for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Enrolled KECNS Students
Welcome to KECNS! We are happy to have you be part of this community. Your teachers, Liza Basile, Trisha Kaczmarek, Abigail Parker, and Deborah Shiflett-Fitton, are ready to answer any questions.
Calendar
KECNS follows Region 1 2020-21 calendar mainly for first/last day, spring break, and holiday recess, including cancellations and delays due to inclement weather. (We do not follow Region 1 for half days, late openings and conference days.) If delayed due to inclement weather, tune in to your local radio, television stations, or check online with the Region 1 website.
COVID-19
Covid-19 regulations and guidelines provided by the State of Connecticut and the Office of Early Childhood will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of students and their families, teachers and their families, as well as the safety of Kent and its surrounding communities.
Masks will be worn by everyone into and out of school everyday. Masks are not required, at this time, for students while in school, as per OEC Guidelines. Teachers will be wearing masks at all times. KECNS will provide face coverings, if a student does not have one or forgets one that day.
As outlined by the CDC, hand washing is one of the best safeguards for mitigating Covid-19. Therefore, throughout the day, students and teachers will follow those guidelines, as well as, an increase in our daily cleaning measures as also outlined by the CDC and OEC.
Please complete the Daily Home Covid-19 Screening for Students each morning. Students MUST stay home if they are feeling sick, have any symptoms consistent with Covid-19, or have had close contact with a person that has been diagnosed. Parents are also expected to screen their children before leaving for school. Check to ensure temperature is below 100 degrees and observe for symptoms associated with Covid-19 as outlined by the Public Health Office.
Drop off/Pick up
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, parents and students will be greeted outside, at the blue entrance door of KECNS, upon arrival and at dismissal. Students will be escorted in by teachers. At this time, we ask that parents remain outside. We will update, if and when this procedure changes.
What to bring to school?
Please have your child bring a lunch, a snack, and a change of clothes. In the winter months, please bring snow pants and boots. Each child has their own cubby that holds their belongings. During this Covid-19 pandemic, please have your child (and you) wear a mask for drop off and pick up.
Please be aware when sending students to school that they will be playing, climbing, painting, and getting dirty outside everyday. Please have students dress accordingly.
Snack and Lunch
Please pack a snack, a separate lunch, and water bottle everyday. Ice Packs in both are required. Please inform teachers, if your child has food restrictions.
Nut-free Policy
KECNS is an allergy-aware facility. Please do not bring any products containing peanuts or Tree Nuts. Thank you for helping keep our children safe.
Communication
Communication is the key to our family-school relationship. In addition to a cubby, each child has their own mailbox, which holds their artwork, projects and any notices being sent home. We send home printed weekly schedules as well as daily sheets called "All About My Day."
On the school white board (in the hallway), the daily schedule, field trip signups, and any other important news is posted. Also, teachers can always be reached via email or by phone.
Parent volunteers
Normally, we love to have parent volunteers. Sadly, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this will not be possible for 2020-21. We will keep you updated, if this changes.
Flexible enrollment
Student can attend KECNS from one to five days per week.
Class size
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Nursery School class is limited to sixteen children, with a teacher to student ratio of 8:1. Actual class size fluctuates depending on daily enrollment.
